Deborah Cumming was born in Lanark but now lives and works in Edinburgh.

As a mature student, Deborah's art education started in Chicago, then New York and continuing in Edinburgh. Thereafter, she worked as a design practitioner then lecturer at Napier University Edinburgh and latterly at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen. During this time, she gained a Master's degree at Glasgow School of Art followed by a fully funded PHD from Gray's School of Art.

Although she loved teaching, she gave up her role in 2011 to fully focus on her own art practice.

Within a year Deborah had her first solo exhibition in London and has since exhibited in major galleries throughout the UK. She is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy Open Exhibition and her work is held in private collections in the UK, USA, Germany and Canada. Working in oils is Deborah's first choice; always challenging herself to improve her technique and artistic output. Her unique style is evident across the broad range of work that she undertakes.
