Born in Cornwall in 1977, Hannah Ludnow grew up in a creative environment and practice painting from a very young age. She moved to London at the age of 18 to train in art at university where she studied a mixture of disciplines including painting, life drawing, ceramics and printmaking among others.
Since graduating, Ludnow decided to pursue her passion for painting and the Cornish dramatic landscape has always been her inspiration. She likes capturing the light and ever changing skies of the picturesque coastlines. She is influenced by Cornish abstract impressionists such as Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Ben Nicholson, whose work draws directly from experiences of the drastic and calm expressions of nature.
Her work is rarely an actual place, instead, she hopes to build an atmospheric and abstract landscape that invites the viewer to be drawn in and feel exposed to the elements and the unpredictability of nature. Her paintings are about the light, the mood and the feelings a place can evoke in the viewer, the emotions that a memory of a place and time can stir within. A memory within a landscape, often a special and private moment, where the vastness and beauty of the surroundings can bring a sense of perspective, clarity and peacefulness.
